Teaching Philosophy: Chemistry is a subject that I have studied, practiced, taught, and enjoyed over the last 24 years as a student and teacher. Effective teaching involves time, dedication, patience, understanding, firmness, and a sense of humor. True learning incorporates active participation by the student, inside as well as outside the classroom. Guiding students through the maze of chemical symbols, equations, and concepts can only be accomplished by giving the students the means and opportunity to take charge of their own learning reinforced by an appropriate reward system. For the past 12 years as a teacher, I have had the privilege of teaching General Chemistry and Inorganic chemistry to numerous undergraduate students. My teaching career is more of a teaching calling, a passion and love to connect the material and beauty of science to the students. I do my best to encourage and challenge my students, to make my courses relevant to their interests/world, and to have students actively participate in their learning process.
